Logan County Sheriff’s Office alert residents of officer impersonation phone scam

Scam Call Impersonating Logan County Sheriff's Office

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. –The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents to an active phone scam where criminals pose as deputies to intimidate victims into making immediate payments.

Scammers are calling individuals, claiming they have an outstanding warrant or are involved in a court matter.

To avoid arrest, victims are coerced into purchasing gift cards or depositing cash into cryptocurrency ATMs.

The callers often use the names of real deputies and send fraudulent documents or photos to victims phones.

The Sheriff’s Office stresses that it never conducts business this way and deputies will never call to demand payment, nor will they require gift cards or ATM deposits to resolve legal issues.

Logan County is working with federal agencies to investigate these incidents.

Officials urge the public to remain vigilant and share this warning, especially with elderly family members and neighbors who may be targeted by these high pressure tactics.
