Feel Good Friday: The Hive expanding days of operation in Allen County

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – In February 2026, The Hive opened a new location in Scottsville.

The Hive is a nonprofit that creates opportunities that enrich, enhance, and empower the lives of people with developmental disabilities and those who care for them, according its website.

On Aug. 10, the nonprofit announced that it received a two-year, nearly $150,000 grant, allowing the nonprofit to add two part-time positions.

With additional staffing, The Hive Scottsville will be able to expand its operating days from two to four.

“What it’s gonna do is it’s gonna help us have the staff that we’re gonna need to provide what that community needs. So like, I think of The Hive, as I’ve told people before, the, The Hive is like spackle, you know, for, for all the programs that exist. We, uh, we fill in the gaps,” said Laura Orsland, owner of The Hive.

Program Manager Hannah Parker says that being open Monday through Thursday to its members is vital.

“I think we’ll be able to reach a lot more families with us being open all four days. I’ve already spoken to families where they’re like, “Okay, when are Thursday and Tuesday happening? Because we can’t really come Monday, Wednesday.” So I think that’ll just open the door for more participation,” said Parker.

The Hive welcomes all potential members in Allen and surrounding counties to attend the Scottsville location on Mondays and Wednesdays for now, until its expansion.
