2026 Football Frenzy Preview: Barren County Trojans

GLASGOW, Ky. – It’s time to kick off a new week with our latest Football Frenzy preview, presented by Bowling Green Fireplace & Grill.

The Barren County Trojans enter 2026 under third year head coach John Myers with plenty of returning impact players ready to work on Friday nights.

“ We had a lot of young guys on both sides of the ball last year with such a large senior class the year before, and now we finally got the experience, and we got what it takes to take care of the game,” senior defensive end Connor Thomas said.

Last season saw the Trojans finish 5-6, graduating six seniors who left their mark on the game.

But a small senior class means an abundance of experience, and that’s just what Barren County has entering a new season.

“Yeah, I think this team has what it takes, obviously, and we’ve always had what it takes,” senior linebacker Baylor Browning said. “Coach Myers has put that mindset (in us) that, you know, we can win football games as long as we put it to it. All we gotta do is make the plays, and Coach Myers is gonna put us in position to make the plays.”

Coach Myers has built a Barren squad that’s cemented a strong run game and taken the identity of being violent and physical on each side of the football.

However, success stems from having the right mindset, and trying to go 1-0 in all aspects is what he’s preaching to the players.

“It’s whatever you do, no matter what you’re doing, every single rep, every single game it’s 1-0,” senior right guard Ethan Bertram said. “Make sure you’re winning that one and you ain’t gotta think about the future just yet.”

“You know, we want to go 1-0 every rep, every day, every week, and every Friday night, and then after that, we start all over for the next week,” Myers said.

“I’m proud of our kids, man, tremendous work ethic, tremendous senior leadership, and we’re excited about where we are right now, but we also know that we have a lot of work to do and it’s not easy.”

And winning the battle day by day can result in the Trojans standing tall amongst the rest at the end of a hard-fought war of a season.

“We’re looking forward to this football team. I feel like we’ve taken major strides over the last couple years in putting Barren County football on the map and in a position to compete at a high level, and we just wanna go out and prove that this year,” Myers said.

Barren County is scheduled to start the season on August 21 in the Don Franklin Bowl, hosted by Glasgow, against Clay County (TN).
