BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The next Football Frenzy 2026 preview, presented by Bowling Green Fireplace and Grill, focuses on the Greenwood Gators.

The squad defeated Madisonville North-Hopkins 21-18 last year for its first playoff win since 2022. That moment was incredibly motivating for the Gators and they are hoping that experience helps them find even more success this fall.

“ It felt amazing winning with my boys, knowing that we had limited games,” senior running back Cesar Ortega said. “It felt really good, and I think we’re going to build on that. We know the feeling of what we need to do to win a game and what we need to do not to lose, and just go off of that.”

Helping the Gators build off that feeling this year is Tony Adams.

Adams takes over in the head coaching role this season after previously serving as an assistant coach last year.

He also coached Greenwood’s varsity lacrosse team in 2024, leading the team to a regional championship during its first sanctioned season, which gave him valuable experience in learning how to create a championship caliber team.

“It’s hand-in-hand,” Adams said. “It’s a different sport, but being able to work with kids and being able to find ways to make it work for the group of kids you have is really what I wanna try to do on a daily basis.”

Because Adams already has familiarity with his players, it gives them all the more confidence in trusting their coach’s vision to level up their game on the field.

“I’m very excited,” senior wide receiver Max Isenhower said. “I’m very happy because he’s spreading our minds and helping us. We’re figuring out ways to attack every defense. There’s nothing that can really stop us from what I see.”

“I think the sky’s the limit with this team,” Adams said. “That’s what we talk about in our coaches meeting, of getting these kids put in the right spot where they can be successful, and help this team take the next step, whatever step that is because we really concentrate on the process more than the outcome.”

While Greenwood figures out those next steps, it’ll start by focusing on the first step of opening the season with a win against Station Camp on August 21st.
