2 arrested following alleged pursuit in Johnson County

PAINTSVILLE, Ky. – Two people are facing charges after an alleged vehicle pursuit in Johnson County on Sunday.

According to the Kentucky State Police, around 10:49 a.m. Sunday, a KSP sergeant attempted to stop a vehicle traveling on U.S. 23 in the Paintsville community for displaying no visible registration plate and having excessive window tint.

Authorities say the driver failed to stop, resulting in a pursuit.

Troopers say the pursuit continued onto KY 825, where troopers were able to disable the vehicle using a Precision Immobilization Technique maneuver.

The driver, Chrisotpher Mollette, and the passenger, William Cantrell, were taken into custody.

Authorities say they located over $1,000 worth of suspected stolen AT&T communication line inside of the vehicle, along with tools believed to have been used to cut and remove the line.

Both were lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.

Mollette is currently charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, first-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, second offense, receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools and additional traffic-related offenses.

Cantrell faces charges of receiving stolen property, possession of burglary tools and criminal littering.
