Entertain Glasgow’s America 250 celebration moves indoors, still draws community support

GLASGOW, Ky. (WNKY) – Entertain Glasgow’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary went on as planned Saturday evening, despite a last-minute venue change prompted by the threat of severe weather.

The Grand Finale of Glasgow’s 250th Weekend Celebration was originally scheduled to take place at Beaver Creek Park with live music, food vendors, family activities and a drone show. However, organizers moved the event inside the Plaza Theatre to ensure the concert could continue safely.

The free event featured performances by country music artist Darryl Worley and local musician Colton Kise.

Kelsey Stephens, an Entertain Glasgow volunteer, said the organization’s mission is to create events that bring the community together.

“It’s exciting. Our whole goal is to provide for the community to enjoy the event,” Stephens said. “We want it to be family-friendly and just try to bring people out and enjoy what Glasgow has to offer.”

Stephens said organizers chose to relocate the event rather than postpone or cancel it after forecasts showed a risk of severe weather.

“We wanted to be able to have it and not have to postpone it,” Stephens said. “The Plaza was gracious enough to let us utilize their space, so we just moved it here and made do with what we had.”

Although attendees missed out on the outdoor attractions, Stephens said the response to the indoor concert was overwhelmingly positive, with many community members happy the event continued.

She said support from residents and businesses is vital to keeping community events alive.

“It’s very, very important for us to have that support,” Stephens said. “For us to be able to make these events great for our hometown, we have to have the support of the community.”

With the America 250 celebration now complete, Stephens said Entertain Glasgow is already preparing for its next event, the organization’s annual Groove and Glow Festival later this year, while also beginning plans for next year’s community celebrations.
