Bowling Green Department of Neighborhood and Community Services offering grant for downtown businesses

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –  In an effort to continue to developing the downtown Bowling Green area, the Department of Neighborhood and Community Services is offering a grant for downtown businesses and property owners to be apart of the process.

A new grant is being made available to downtown businesses and property to help pay for projects local businesses plan on carrying out in the near future.

The city will match your contribution to certain projects. The money comes from a pool of $40,000, $20,000 of which will be used this summer and the other half saved for the early months of 2027. Payments will be made in increments between $2,500 and $7,500.

This grant is only for businesses in the downtown area and differs from another grant the city offers for residents of Bowling Green.

“The neighborhood grants are brought forth from residents needs, and the downtown grants do not apply to private residences” said Downtown Development Coordinator Telia Butler. “The downtown grant is designed specifically for commercial businesses and developers, but if you are a downtown resident or have a downtown neighborhood, you can still apply for that other neighborhood grant for your individual neighborhoods”.

Butler says that this grant has been planned for years, but its introduction was interrupted by the December 2021 tornado as assets were then reorganized to help with relief and reconstruction efforts.
