Young joins WKU MBB as proven winner

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As WKU men’s basketball eyes a return to the big dance for the first time in three seasons, a new member of the team is bringing over two years of tournament time experience.

Sharron Young transfers to Western after two strong years at the University of Akron.

The guard hit the court for the Zips in all but one game, helping power the program to back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances.

Winning is in the junior’s DNA, not only in college, but also at Morgantown High School.

He was a part of three straight state title teams, rounding out his career as Gatorade West Virginia Player of the Year.

When Young signed with WKU back in April, head coach Hank Plona said, “We were looking for a champion and we got one…Sharron makes us better.”

Young believes the team, as a whole, can be better in the summer months of the offseason by working on one specific area of the game.

“ I’d just say it’s consistency. Not focusing on the outcome, but just making the daily habits the main thing,” Young said.

“You know, so far it’s been a great experience. I got a lot of great teammates and great coaches. So far, it’s been fun. We’ve been out here working every day and trying to slowly chop away and get to where we want.”
