Scheduling your child’s sports physicals before the school year starts

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As families get ready to send their kids back to school, its important to remember to schedule your child physical before the fall sports season starts.

Health professionals recommend scheduling your child’s physical at least a few weeks from the start of school or the beginning for sports activities, this allows medical professionals time to address any issues that may arise.

These physicals play an important role not just in the sports health but their everyday well being and can catch both serious and superficial issues. It’s important to schedule with your primary care provider as well as they are most likely to spot abnormalities in your health.

“A sports physical is a preventative and personalized health check that not only clears you for sports participation, but supports your overall well-being. So scheduling that with a provider that knows your medical history that you’re comfortable chatting with, discussing any issues with is very important,” said Ashley Parrigin, an APRN with Norton Children’s

Parents play an important role as well. Making sure your child has a proper recovery from their sports is just as important as the preventative measures.

Making sure your child is eating right and getting enough sleep are just a few things are parents can do to help their child recover.
