Glasgow-Barren County Boys and Girls Club unplugs with ‘No Tech Tuesdays’

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – The Glasgow-Barren County Boys and Girls Club is encouraging kids to put down their devices with a new program called “No Tech Tuesdays.”

For the first time, members of the club spent the day without phones, tablets or other electronics.

Rather than looking at a screen, they took part in group games, activities and face-to-face interaction.

The idea for the program came when Unit Director Gabrielle Hayes said she noticed kids spending more time on their electronics rather than interacting with those around them and decided it was time to try something different.

While some were hesitant about the idea at first, organizers said they quickly embraced the challenge and created new games and found new ways to have fun together without screens.

“One of them came up to me, and they’re like, ‘Ms. Gabby, Ms. Gabby, what time is it? ‘ And I’m like, ‘It’s 8:52,’ and the whole table started erupting,” said Hayes. “They had made up a game because they didn’t have their phones to tell the time, so they all had to guess what time it was. And whoever wins, you know, they get bragging rights.”
