Russellville gymnast wins gold at Special Olympics USA Games

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. (WNKY) — Russellville gymnast Lee Dockins has added another gold medal to her Special Olympics USA Games career.

Dockins won gold Tuesday in the Level 3 Senior All-Around with a score of 75, according to Special Olympics Kentucky. Her score was the highest among all Level 3 gymnasts in any division.

Dockins’ now has 21 medals across five trips to the USA Games.

Other local athletes also competed Tuesday. Rockfield bowler Dillon Meador rolled a 524 series in his final qualifying round before bowling competition begins. His series included five straight strikes.

In golf, Glasgow’s Unified pair of Troy Pickens and James Cheely carded a 68 in their final divisioning round. Their 9-hole alternate shot competition begins Wednesday.

Dockins will have a chance to add four more medals Wednesday during individual apparatus competitions. Meador will compete for his first medal in singles competition, while Pickens and Cheely begin the first round of their three-round event.
