Local first responders host the June Summer Block Party at H.D. Carpenter Park

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The second community block party of the summer took place Thursday evening at H.D. Carpenter Park, with this month’s theme focused on honoring local first responders.
Community members gathered at the park to meet police officers, firefighters and other emergency personnel, while getting an up-close look at police cruisers, fire trucks and emergency equipment. Families also enjoyed time on the playground and other activities throughout the evening.
Organizers say the event was designed to strengthen connections between first responders and the community they serve.
The block party marked the second of four planned events this summer, with additional gatherings scheduled for July and August.
Throughout the evening, first responders had the opportunity to interact with residents, answer questions and build relationships with children and families.
“They’re the future leaders of our community,” said Sgt. Brad Hogue of the Bowling Green Police Department. “There will come a time when they’re the ones responding to help others. It’s important that we build those relationships now and let them know they’re an important part of this community.”
Hogue said events like the block party also help remind residents that local first responders are committed to serving and supporting the community.
“This is their community,” he said. “We want people to know we’re here to help and serve them.”
The next block party is scheduled for July 9 and will feature a “Splash Day Water Play” theme.
