Health officials warn dangerous opioid, Cychlorphine, has reached Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, KY.- Earlier this year, health officials warned about a dangerous new opioid potentially entering Kentucky. Local health experts now say that substance has arrived.

According to the Barren River District Health Department, cychlorphine has been identified in Kentucky and surrounding states.

Health officials describe cychlorphine as a powerful street opioid linked to overdoses. Experts say the drug is believed to be about four times stronger than fentanyl.

“It’s extremely important for the public to be aware, and it’s extremely important for everyone to have Narcan accessible,” said Cally Stuart, a harm reduction coordinator.

Officials say there is still limited information available about cychlorphine, but early reports suggest it may take multiple doses of Narcan to reverse an overdose.

Health experts continue encouraging residents to carry Narcan and stay informed about the dangers of opioid misuse.
