SoKY’s Choice: DSSKY Raises Funds for Buddy House
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – The Down Syndrome Society of Southern Kentucky brought community members together Saturday night for its third annual Raise the Roof fundraiser, aimed at helping build a larger Buddy House for families across the region.
The event featured Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench, who participated in a moderated question-and-answer session and meet-and-greet with attendees.
DSSKY Executive Director Stephanie Morton said all proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly toward the organization’s building fund.
“So all of the funds from tonight are going into our building fund to help us build a bigger buddy house to accommodate our families better,” Morton said.
Morton said Bench connected personally with the organization through his wife’s niece, who has Down syndrome.
“It’s super exciting to have him here to see the energy and the love he’s shown to our individuals with down syndrome,” Morton said.
Local businesses also helped support the fundraiser, including Texas Roadhouse.
Stephanie Walrath with Texas Roadhouse described DSSKY as “family” and said the organization continues to make an impact throughout the community.
“We just love our buddies,” Walrath said.
DSSKY says funds raised through the event will help expand services for families in southern Kentucky while continuing to provide programs at no cost.
