Blood drive held at Western Kentucky University

BOWLING GREEN, Ky – Western Kentucky University partnered with the American Red Cross to host its annual blood drive at the Preston Center this week.

Organizers say it is the largest blood drive in both Kentucky and Tennessee.

The three-day event began Tuesday and is expected to collect between 1,200 and 1,400 units of blood.

Each unit of blood can help up to three people, while also giving students a sense of fulfillment.

“It just helps us serve our community. We’re also participating in Greek Week, so that’s points for that. And we’re stepping out of the box by donating blood and serving our community,” said WKU student Sofia Romaker.

To encourage participation, the Greek organization with the most donors earns an advantage in this week’s Greek Week competition.
