The Kentucky singer finally took home his first Grammys this year for his collaboration with rapper Lil Nas X on “Old Town Road.” He was nominated 28 years ago, but never won for “Achy Breaky Heart,” the viral hit that launched his career. Cyrus says the win represented his persistence after years of ups and downs. Cyrus has weathered the criticism that came with the success of those songs and said he’s learned “the past doesn’t equal the future.”
