The Medical Center at Caverna celebrates 10 years of partnership
HORSE CAVE, Ky. – The former Caverna Memorial Hospital is now celebrating ten years of partnership as The Medical Center at Caverna.
The partnership started back in 2016 when the two merged. Caverna Memorial Hospital has been around for over 40 years, and in the ten years of the partnership, one constant has remained the same: providing the best medical care possible close to home.
“This facility would have struggled to survive as an independent facility,” said Vice President and administrator Alan Alexander says. “With Med Center Health, we’ve not only survived, but we’ve thrived… and we’ve added lots of services. I’ve talked about chemotherapy, that’s here for the first time. We’ve talked about rehab services, outpatient rehab services that we’re offering that only is because of Med Center Health. We’ve talked about some certifications that we’ve had just in the last few years. Med Center Health has been everything to this community in terms of keeping this hospital not only alive but thriving.”
“Everybody in our local communities or even for about 3 or 4 counties around utilize our facilities here,” said Horse Cave mayor Randall Curry. “So it’s very important that we have these local facilities here and what they’re able to offer to our local communities.”
The mayor was on the board at Caverna Memorial Hospital when the partnership was approved, so he’s seen the growth in those ten years firsthand.
“They’ve been able to bring us specialty clinics here that we wasn’t able to do in the past because of the situation and the reimbursement from our federal program began to take a toll on rural hospitals,” Curry says.
As a patient there himself, the mayor says it’s been a great decade, and hopes for many more to come.
“It’s been a win win situation for our community, for our people that don’t have to travel to other locations… can get the medical services they need right here,” Curry says. “My job is to do the best job I can to take care of the people of Horse Cave. With the upgrade of the facilities here and the things that’ve been added, it’s been value added to my community, to my city and to myself personally.”
