The Bright Coalition, BRADD host food drive to open 24/7 food pantry in Butler Co.
BUTLER COUNTY, Ky. – For the month of February, the Bright Coalition and the Barren River Area Development District have partnered to host a community food drive to open the first 24/7 food pantry in Butler County.
The idea came after nutrition specialists with the coalition created a food resource list across the 10 counties served by BRADD. After discovering a lack of 24-hour food pantries in Butler County, they decided to take action.
During the month of February, both organizations have been accepting donations to stock the first ever Bright Community Food Pantry.
The Bright Coalition and BRADD are asking for canned vegetables and fruit, canned soups and chili, pasta and rice, peanut butter and jelly, cereal and oatmeal, box macaroni and cheese and other non perishable food items.
The 24/7 pantry will allow families and other Butler County community members in need to access food and essential items at any time.
“If someone may miss the window to come get a hot meal, for example, at a church, they should have a place where they can still go get food items to cook for their family at home,” said Olivia McGhee, strategic communications and grant specialist at BRADD.
The food drive goes on until Feb. 28, but donations will be accepted at any time at the Butler County Health Department, Butler County Senior Center or any Barren River Health Location.
