Fourth annual Kentucky Crop Health Conference gathers in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The fourth annual Kentucky Crop Health Conference is bringing the new information to dozens of Kentucky farmers.

Guest speakers from all over the United States also gathered to share tips when it comes to crops, soil and pest management.

Kiersten Wise, the plant pathologist at the University of Kentucky, tells us, “Kentucky farmers have to deal with a lot of pests, threats, you know, weeds, insects, diseases, all of which can be really yield-limiting. And we’re really excited that the research that we do at the University of Kentucky, you know, this is a really good opportunity for us to get that latest information out to them.”

Finding a way to share important updates about crops, especially when it comes to the health of your plants, can impact the health of humans

Eston Williams, Crop navigator at the University of Arkansas, says, “Just doing anything healthy with those type things are good, you know. So we want to make sure that the central thing to life is agriculture. And then with good crops, bring on good health for our bodies and system as well.“

Eston adds, “The thing about crops in agriculture, I tell people, is that there’s nothing you can do day in and day out without some type of agriculture and food and crops. But when I think about food, I think about crops because that’s where a lot of foods come from.”

Connecting people in agriculture with unbiased researchers to the right resources can make a massive difference.

Kiersten shares, “At this meeting we invite speakers from outside of Kentucky so we have some experts from the Midwest or other regions that can share their perspectives on maybe some emerging issues or issues that they’re seeing in Kentucky. So we get more of a geographic perspective. So it’s some of the information and the people that you’re used to seeing, but also some new faces and some new information and that can help with that decision making.”
