KSP warns drivers to clean off cars before driving to prevent sliding ice

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With all the winter weather, the main concern among many drivers is ice on the roadways, but you should also be concerned about ice on your vehicle.

What may look like snow that’s piled up can freeze over, and turn to ice.

It could also fly off your vehicle, causing accidents on the already slick roads.

That’s why Kentucky State Police are urging drivers to take a few extra minutes to clean off their cars to keep other drivers safe.

“It’s not necessarily snow, it’s actually a thick layer of ice. It’s all frozen, so whenever you’re driving down the roadway, this thick layer of ice is defrosting from your car and flying off and hitting other vehicles… and when it hits another vehicle, it’s going to cause a collision. So we want everybody to try to be safe, and when it comes to getting out on the roadway, please try your best to clean your car off,” Trooper Katan Parker says.

He also recommends using an ice scraper to clean off your car, and double checking before you leave that everything is cleared off.
