Gov. Beshear confirms 11 winter-related deaths in Kentucky due to storm
FRANKFORT, Ky. – The winter storm death toll has now risen to 11, as a Livingston County man has passed away due to weather-related causes.
Governor Andy Beshear announced this death, along with 10 others, during his weather update Wednesday.
During that update, Beshear also shared each family of the 11 will receive $10,000 from the state to help cover funeral expenses for their loved ones in such a troubling time.
“First thing we do in Kentucky is grieve together, and we don’t want these families to have to wait for reimbursement by FEMA. We’ve been raising money into this fund to respond to situations like this, and we’ll be reaching out to those families directly,” he says.
As of 1 PM Wednesday, there were around 12,000 power outages in Kentucky, and Tuesday night saw over 800 people sheltered in warming centers.
Members of the Kentucky National Guard have been mobilized to Allen County, one of the hardest-hit areas in the state, to help as well.
