Broadcast General Manager/GSM
We are looking for a General Manager/General Sales Manager who is ready to lead South Central Kentucky’s fastest growing broadcast news station into a new era! In a world of rapidly changing media, we’re seeking an inventive leader who sees these challenges as opportunities and is ready to write our next chapter of news evolution, while achieving (or exceeding) market revenue goals by leading our Sales team in broadcast & digital development.
The ideal candidate should excel in developing talent throughout all departments, building teams that are adaptable, high-performing, and focused on providing quality information & entertainment for the South Central Kentucky area. The Sales team should be mentored to connect with clients (and audiences) where they are, and find out how to meet their advertising & viewing needs.
Responsibilities include:
- Drive revenue growth through innovative approaches to content monetization.
- Make decisive, data-driven decisions that align with (or surpass) market trends.
- Lead & develop a diverse team of professionals across news, programming, sales, marketing, digital, and engineering.
- Serve as the face of our station in the community, building strong relationships with business leaders, philanthropic organizations, and civic groups to elevate our brand and create meaningful local impact.
- Oversee communication strategies that support company values and strategic objectives, while ensuring employee understanding and alignment.
- Prepare/lead weekly Sales meetings and monthly Station meetings.
- Create/execute revenue-generating sales ideas for broadcast, digital, and local events.
- Lead, manage, and hold accountable Account Executives, including regular forecasting and pacing reports, daily activity forms, and collections/credits for their accounts.
- Provide strategic advice to help new television advertisers get the best ROI by working consultatively with their Account Executive, attending client meetings as needed.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of broadcast sales experience (as an Account Executive or higher) is required, with some management experience preferred. Strong communication and presentation skills are mandatory.
- Strong business/financial acumen.
- Experienced team leader through periods of change.
- Demonstrated success in growing audience engagement across multiple platforms.
- Track record of innovative approaches and novel ideas to client additions/retentions and revenue generation.
- Understanding of (and appreciation for) media trends and emerging technologies.
