SOKY Patriots and Feeding America help local children with weekly food program
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In a partnership with Feeding America, the SOKY Patriots have organized a weekly food program to try to make sure no child in the Bowling Green area goes hungry.
Since 2020, SOKY Patriots Inc. and Feeding America have distributed food bags weekly to kids with food insecurities in both Warren County Public Schools and Bowling Green Independent School District.
The program builds these bags throughout the week and distributes them to local schools where they are then given to the children that need them. The SOKY Patriots even asked the schools what food items students preferred the most and made sure they had plenty of items they were able to cook themselves or snack on.
In 2025 alone, the SOKY Patriots along with Feeding America were able to donate over one hundred thousand food bags and boxes to children in the Bowling Green area with majority of items and money being donated by the community.
The program has grown tremendously over the past five years, going from donating around 400 bags to now over 1,000 weekly to local students.
“They need a good education, and no kid can think properly if they’re hungry,” said Tim Allen, executive director of SOKY Patriots Inc. “And our bags are meant to take and for them to take home on Thursdays and Fridays, depending on if it’s preschool or or middle school or elementary. That way they have something to eat over the weekend when they might not be able to get a hold of food because, you know, they’re at school.”
The SOKY Patriots will be having its first fundraiser of the year Saturday, Jan. 10 at Sam’s Club in Bowling Green. If you are interested in donating, visit https://givebutter.com/6a0m5z
