Hilltoppers Complete Sweep of Marshall in 91-84 Win

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Taveion Hollingsworth scored a game-high 18 points, Jared Savage had 16 points and Jordan Rawls added 16 points as the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers completed a two-game sweep of Marshall, 91-84.
With the win, the Hilltoppers improve to 14-6 overall and 7-1 in Conference USA play. Rick Stansbury’s team has now won five straight games and seven of their last eight.
All five starters scored in double figures and Camron Justice added 11 points off the bench for the Tops, who shot 50.8% (32-63) from the field and 43.5% (10-23) from long range.
The Hilltoppers and Thundering Herd, who also played earlier this week on Wednesday, were neck-and-neck through much of the first half, but a 18-9 WKU run over the final 5:30 gave the home team a decisive 50-40 advantage at the intermission break.
Western Kentucky stretched their advantage to as many as 14 points in the opening minutes of the second half, but Marshall stormed back and trimmed the deficit to as few as four with 4:15 left to play.
But Hollingsworth, Savage and the Conference USA-leading Hilltoppers closed it 0ut to keep their unblemished home record intact.
The Tops will now head to the Sunshine State for a pair of road games at Florida Atlantic and Florida International.
WKU will take on FAU next Thursday, January 30th at 6 p.m. and FIU next Saturday, February 1st at 11 a.m.
