Smiths Grove man charged after allegedly crashing into parade float while intoxicated

SMITHS GROVE, Ky. – A Smiths Grove man is facing charges after allegedly crashing into a parade float.

Smiths Grove Police Chief Jason Franks says officers responded to a non-injury collision on Main Street S at Kirby Street on Friday at 5:26 pm.

The collision involved a float carrying adults and children in the Smiths Grove Christmas Parade.

Chief Franks says the department’s investigation shows the operator of the vehicle that struck the float was under the influence at the time of the crash.

The operator is identified as Jeffrey Cannon, 65, of Smiths Grove.

Cannon was arrested and transported to the Warren County Regional Jail.

Cannon is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol .08 (189a.010(1a) – 1st (agg cir).
