GM awards $200,000 in grants to five area nonprofits

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A local industry in Bowling Green is giving a boost to five nonprofits that focus on STEAM education.

That’s science, technology, engineering, arts or mathematics. GM has been awarding Community Impact Grants for decades to organizations that work to inspire young people in these subjects as well as vehicle and road safety.

This year, the corporation doubled the amount and awarded $200,000 to local agencies.

GM sees the donations doing important work.

Ray Theriault, plant director of GM Bowling Green Assembly, says, “Our world will need the next generation of problem solvers. And so when you talk about youth that are interested in going into STEAM type of fields, that’s what becomes of them, right? They become the next generation of problem solvers. And I think we all know that the next generation will have plenty of problems to solve.”

Justin Jennings, CEO of Lost River Cave, says, “We are just completely grateful to GM for, you know, selecting us alongside all of these other great causes. It’s truly humbling to have such a great community partner.”

The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, the Green River Regional Education Cooperative, United Way of Southern Kentucky, Lost River Cave and the Governor’s Scholars Program shared the $200,000.
