Second Half Surge Propels Tops to 64-60 Comeback Win at Marshall

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers snatched victory from the jaws of defeat once again on Wednesday night as they stormed back from a fourteen point halftime deficit to stun Marshall, 64-60.
WKU (13-6 overall, 6-1 C-USA) trailed by as many as 19 in the first twenty minutes of play, but put the clamps on defensively in the second half to win their third true road game of the season.
The win moves Western Kentucky back into a tie for first place with North Texas, who the Tops defeated 93-84 in their Conference USA opener on January 2nd.
Junior guard Taveion Hollingsworth led WKU with 20 points and four steals, forward Carson Williams scored 15 points and guard Jared Savage chipped in 14 points, including four made 3s.
The Hilltoppers forced a season-high 21 turnovers and snatched a season-high 12 steals against the Thundering Herd.
Free-throw shooting has been one of WKU’s biggest strengths this season and the Hilltoppers once again held a distinct advantage at the charity stripe. The Tops knocked down 12 of 15 from the line while Marshall connected on 6 of their 8 total free throw attempts.
Western Kentucky and Marshall will go to battle once again on Saturday night as the Tops prepare to host their Conference USA rival at Diddle Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CST.
