SOKY Ice Rink officially opens for 9th year at SOKY Center

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The ribbon was officially cut Friday afternoon on year 9 of the SOKY Ice Rink in downtown Bowling Green… and this year, they’ve added a few new things to the fun.

“{We} got some new heat towers, and then of course all of our activities with curling and the hockey league and our skating academy… and we’re even going to do an adult skate Wednesdays at ten. So if you’re an adult who works downtown or can get downtown Wednesdays at ten, come skate,” Nikki Koller says.

One of those additions to this year’s festivities are some igloos that are not just comfy, but also offer an opportunity to step away from the ice while also being with friends and family or even hosting a birthday party.

“Being an outdoor event space, we’re always trying to think of ways to get people a little bit more shelter… and so we thought we’d do a nice, cute, cozy little vibe in those igloos for people… and I think it’s turned out really well,” Koller says.

While you can stay in them yourself, it’s definitely better as a part of a group.

“We always love having special groups and parties out here at SOKY Ice Rink… and now, we’ve got these beautiful little igloos with furniture inside that you can rent and have your little get together at SOKY Ice Rink,” Ryan Pattee, the Special Projects Coordinator for Warren County Parks and Recreation, says.

They couldn’t have made it nine years, though, without the support of the SOKY community.

“It’s felt tremendous to watch all of these sponsors come back year after year, especially Wiesemann Orthodontics. The community here just really loves to support family friendly environments for the winter,” Koller says.
