Richey signs to play college golf at UT Martin

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Thursday night out at the Club at Olde Stone, one Gator golf senior signed the dotted line to continue playing at the college level.

Greenwood’s Layton Richey was surrounded by friends and family as he inked his intentions to play the sport he loves at UT Martin.

The future Skyhawk had a decorated high school career as a Gator, joining the team as an eighth grader and getting experience in the state tournament four out of his five years with the program.

Richey was a member of the 2024 and 2025 Kentucky All-State First Team, amongst a laundry list of other notable accolades at Greenwood High School, and he shared that his favorite memories as a Gator were spent in practice rounds with his teammates.

You may think he’s stoked to get to Martin, Tennessee in just a handful of months for the golf side, but there’s one more driving factor that led to his commitment with the Skyhawks.

“ I’m going to be honest, I like to hunt a lot. It’s a little small town and there’s a lot of good places to hunt, but it’s not just that. The coach is awesome, love the guy; he’s very personable. When I was getting recruited, I just wanted to go to a place that had great practice facilities, and they have one of the best,” Richey said. “It’s definitely a place that I can get better at and I’ll definitely improve. It’s just something you dream about since you were little and it’s just, it’s kind of surreal to be here.”
