UK professor shares how to eat with intention during the holiday season
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- With the busy holiday season at all of our front doors, we all could be eating more food than we normally do.
But eating with intention is not an easy thing to do, especially when you have so many holiday traditions.
Whether it’s pie, cake or mac and cheese, many health experts want to encourage people not to pile their plate this thanksgiving, as this can make your insulin increase and work over time.
This can ultimately cause you to feel more hungry than you actually are.
Alison Gustafson, a U.K. professor and the director of Food is Health program shares, “At a lot of those events there is vastly more food served than is normally served. And so we have this desire to try to taste all those different foods. And so it’s really important to be mindful of picking ones that are satisfying so that you don’t feel like you’re depriving yourself, but also try to limit how much you put on your plate.”
Gustafson also encourages everyone to eat more proteins than carbs, and you can always go back for seconds.
