Phoenix Rising hosting annual Care Kits for Kids fundraiser

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Phoenix Rising has launched its annual Care Kits for Kids fundraiser, collecting bags, hygiene items and gifts for children ages 12 to 17.

The Bowling Green based nonprofit says the items, while small, can have a lasting impact on young people who have experienced severe trauma.

Volunteers are encouraging community members to donate new toiletries, backpacks and age-appropriate gifts through the holiday season. Sarah Jane Zink, volunteer president of Phoenix Rising, said the kits help remind teens that they are not forgotten.

“They are so thrilled to know that somebody cares,” Zink said.

She noted that many of the children served by the organization have been “failed somehow” by their immediate families. According to Zink, the gratitude shown by the teens underscores the importance of the effort.

Donations can be dropped off at designated collection sites listed on the organization’s Facebook.
