Bowling Green Police Department opens house to possible recruits

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -It’s a law enforcement agency that accepts applications for new recruits every business day of the year. But Tuesday night, the Bowling Green Police Department held an open house to give potential applicants an inside look at the facility.

In addition to tours, Deputy Chief Penny Bowles said the department had about 11 different employees at the open house, each representing a different section of the department. From dispatchers to detectives, employees were on hand to answer questions about the job and application process and there was equipment on display ranging from guns to evidence kits.

Bowles said in the past, the department has taken recruiting activities to places in the community but this year is the first time the BGPD has hosted an open house in the department as a recruiting event. She said it’s a good way to show people where they might be working and the tools they might be working with.
