Metcalfe County Elementary holds its 15th Annual Food Drive
EDMONTON, Ky.- The Metcalfe County Elementary Beta Club started its 15th annual food drive Monday.
The school-wide drive will last from Nov. 3 until Nov. 20. The school will be collecting both canned and non-perishable food for members of the community who are in need this holiday season.
Metcalfe Elementary usually starts the drive in December, but due to the uncertainty of SNAP benefits this month and with most of the school’s students being on free lunch, they decided to begin the drive early.
“Being in a rural, tight-knit community, the majority of our students are on those benefits,” said Lauran Dover, a special education teacher at Metcalfe County Elementary. “Every student in our district qualifies for free breakfast and lunch. So, yes, that is a big deal here, that those children don’t have those benefits this month.”
The food drive is also open to the Metcalfe County community as well as members of the school. Donations are welcome at the front office and can be brought in until Nov. 20. For more information on the drive, visit the Metcalfe Elementary Beta Club Facebook at MCES Elementary Beta.
