Where to compost your pumpkins after Halloween
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- If you’re looking for a way to get rid of those pumpkins after Halloween, Compost Bowling Green has you covered.
Every year, more than 1 billion pounds of pumpkins end up in landfills across the United States. This year, Compost BG is partnering with two local parks in Bowling Green to offer residents a sustainable way to dispose of their gourds.
Owner Charlie O’Connell said composting helps reduce the strain on landfills and cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions.
“By composting your pumpkins here in Bowling Green, we’re keeping waste out of the landfill when landfills are filling up every year,” O’Connell said. “Composting is one great option to manage our waste better.”
Compost Bowling Green will host two drop-off events for pumpkin composting. The first will take place at the Lovers Lane Soccer Complex on Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. to noon. The second event will be held at Preston Miller Park on Nov. 2 from noon to 4 p.m.
Organizers say it’s an easy way for the community to keep holiday waste out of landfills and give back to the planet.
