Local volunteer honored with national award
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s a tough job making children’s dreams come true, but here in Bowling Green, one organization has made it their mission to do just that.
The Dream Factory works year-round to make hundreds of dreams come true for children but that work isn’t always easy. To recognize that dedication, the organization honored one of their own with the “volunteer of the year” award.
Vicki Weaver, who’s been volunteering with The Dream Factory for more than 30 years, has devoted her life to helping children experience their dreams.
She says she was humbled and surprised when she learned she’d been chosen for the award.
“I was shocked. I could not believe that out of the whole National Dream Factory organization, that, someone from Bowling Green won the award, I was very honored to start with just for being nominated,” Weaver said.
Rose Wheat, the Treasurer of The Bowling Green Dream Factory chapter, says that Vicki is an excellent example for how the surrounding community responds whenever anyone asks for help, no matter how young or old.
“I think it just shows what Bowling Green Warren County, Kentucky is all about. Because when there’s a national disaster and whether it’s volunteers needed to drive a truck to take supplies or money sent to support people in whatever that national disaster is, I couldn’t live in a place that I would love and enjoy any more than Bowling Green, Warren County, Kentucky,” Wheat said.
