Lady Purples finish sixth as team as action concludes in KHSAA Girls Golf State Championship

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Wednesday afternoon over at the Bowling Green Country Club, the final round of the 2025 Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac KHSAA Girls Golf State Championship wrapped up, with many lady golfers in the area competing.

Out of Barren County, Chloe Witcher and Lucy Zalla represented the Trojanettes, with Witcher posting a +14 through both rounds of play, tying for 25th place, and Zalla, after having a stronger round on Tuesday, tied for 61st.

Meanwhile, South Warren’s Stella Forney was consistent through both days, giving her a top 40 finish at +21.

On the team side, the Bowling Green Lady Purples placed sixth as a squad.

Caroline Childers was the highest scoring Lady Purple, hitting one stroke better Wednesday than Tuesday to give her a tied at 16th place finish.

Her sister Mary Douglas Childers had the second-highest score from Bowling Green, placing 60th at +28.

Overall, Bowling Green head coach Logan Steenbergen was proud of the great season her girls had, and senior Caroline Childers felt the emotions of playing in her last tournament as a Lady Purple.

“ My first year of coaching, we qualified as a team and came in ninth and we were thrilled with that, so to be a little disappointed in sixth, what a blessing that is,” Steenbergen said. “The girls came out, they gave it their all, it wasn’t our time and that’s okay.”

“We have had a great team for the past seven years. I remember trying out in sixth grade, and it’s just a lot of memories,” Childers said. “My dad’s my coach and I kind of grew up on this team, on this course, and it’s just a good way to end here.”
