Annual Bowling Green Scam Jam protects consumers through education
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Members of the community are one step closer to safety from scams thanks to the Bowling Green Scam Jam.
Hosted by Lockshield Partners, the free public workshop aimed to educate consumers about current scams and how to avoid them.
Some scams circulating include investment fraud, identity theft and more.
Dan Klein, senior partner of Lockshield Partner, says, “It’s really all about awareness and prevention.”
Klein says scams are always evolving, so when you think you have it figured out, something new can show up, especially considering technology. Mass communications sent out are just one example.
Along with document shredding, several speakers took the stage to share their knowledge. These included members of the U.S. Secret Service, AARP and Office of Senior Protection, among many more.
Gary Adkins, state president for AARP, shares some other examples of scams, saying “When they’re contacted out of the blue about something that is trying to get them excited, like a, a child or a grandchild that’s been arrested, or there’s an arrest warrant for you, or whatever it might be. Because if you can spot a scam, you can stop a scam.”
The next Scam Jam shredding event will take place Friday from noon to 4 p.m. in Henderson.
