Bluegrass Farms Boulevard expansion now open, connecting Scottsville Road to Plano Road

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s been under construction for over a year now, but a new section of Bluegrass Farms Boulevard, right near Camping World, is now open as it’s set to connect Scottsville Road to Plano Road near the I-165 exit.

“The property owner approached city leadership… think it was the end of 2022, early 2023, and we were able to work out an agreement with them, where they paid half the design cost, and then they graciously donated $3 million toward construction, as well as provide all the land or donated all the land needed for right of way,” Bowling Green Public Works engineer Kyle Hunt says.

The project, which opened last Friday to traffic, didn’t see many delays… mainly for weather like we saw Tuesday afternoon: rain.

“Everything went pretty well except for the wet season this year with all the rain… January, February, cold weather, stuff like that. A lot of dirt work, a lot of storm work… destruction and grading and all that… to kind of get to the point where we were ready to progress with asphalt, all the stuff you’re seeing on the roadway itself,” surveyor and project manager Tyler Phelps says.

They plan to open the area up for development, with one project already underway.

“We have Camping World right here that’s getting ready to move some of their facilities across the road… and then the roadway itself provides frontage to I-65 and additional property that can be developed along the roadway,” Hunt says.

He also adds this is a win win project for everyone.

“It provides the owner a chance to market a new roadway for potential development… but it also gives the taxpayers much needed addition to the transportation network that we think will add a significant discount of course… but we also think that it will alleviate congestion on Scottsville Road between Plano Road and the I-65 interchange,” Hunt says.
