Bowling Green Daily News print publication to move to new schedule

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Daily News is announcing an update for its print publication schedule that begins this week.
In a note to its readers on Saturday, Aug. 23, the Daily News stated the following:
“Since 1854, the Daily News has been the region’s leading source of news, sports, advertising and opinions. With the continued support of our loyal readers, advertisers and the community, we plan to be around for another 175 years. While many newspapers across the country have reduced the number of print editions, or ceased publishing print newspapers altogether, the Daily News has continued to publish six days a week, at a tremendous cost.”
“However, to sustain our continuing role as the community’s leading information source, beginning next week we will publish a print product three days a week – Mondays, Wednesdays and weekends. The majority of our partners have already opted for a 3-day model in print, with the Monday, Wednesday and weekend editions currently containing the majority of the Daily News’ print advertising. In an age where consumers are increasingly looking to their computers and phones for information, continuing to publish a print product six times a week is unsustainable for most news organizations. The US. Postal Service, which delivers the Daily News and many other newspapers, continues to raise rates. The Daily News reaches more people than ever with several hundred thousand unique visitors to our website and digital products who view close to a million pages each month.
“While the frequency of the print edition is changing, our commitment to covering the news, sports, events and stories that define our community remains a 24/7 priority for our staff and journalists. Rest assured that our readers will continue to get the best news and sports coverage, opinions and advertising in the region, both online at bgdailynews.com, and in our three print editions each week. While we will strive to keep most of the features valued by our readers, a few items, like the TV guide, will be eliminated. Papers will continue to be delivered via the Postal Service. Additionally, on normal publication days that are a Postal Service holiday, we will be publishing and delivering a paper the next day.
“We sincerely thank our loyal readers and advertisers for their unwavering support as we make this transition. We believe this step will allow us to continue to serve southcentral Kentucky for many years ahead.
