Getting excited for fall events in downtown Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It may not have felt like it the past few weeks, but fall is almost here, and with that comes the exciting events planned for downtown Bowling Green.
From a pumpkin drop to a celebration for the Day of the Dead, the fun is returning, including one event that has families coming back every single year.
“The Harvest Fest is back Saturday, October the 18th from 11am to 4pm. Fountain Square Park will return as a fiesta theme with A Day of the Dead, Dia de Los Muertos with our Hispanic community. We’ll have over a dozen food trucks here at Fountain Square, along with live entertainment and a DJ” said Downtown Development Coordinator Telia Butler.
The Harvest Fest is not the only event happening downtown, of course, with Fountain Row Fridays and concerts in the park still around for a few more weeks. And spooky events like scare on the square also keeping crowds engaged. But with the increase in interest in the events has also come an increase in local business. Butler says that the success of these events has created great business opportunities for those interested in downtown.
“Just in this past couple of months of summer, when it’s historically a little bit slower because school’s not in session and WKU is out as well, We’ve had eight new downtown businesses just around the square, and it’s adjacent streets open that have been a mix of retail, bar, restaurant and even venue space as well” Butler said of the growth in the downtown area.
And with the downtown area representing the heart of Bowling Green, the community also has played their part in keeping downtown beautiful, lively and thriving.
“Downtown is often that personality of a city, right? It is its heartbeat. It is where all of its charm and personality traits show up. So we would love for all of Bowling Green and Warren County to remember to shop local and shop small and support downtown local businesses and support downtown events” Butler said.
More events are also being planned for the colder winter months as well including bringing back some community favorite for the Christmas season.
