Lawless Orthodontics getting ready to help kids & teachers go back to school
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With back to school season underway, a local orthodontist is helping everyone get ready for a return to the classroom, with more than just a smile.
Lawless Orthodontics is hosting Smiles for Teachers, a giveaway taking place at all of their locations (Bowling Green, Russellville and Glasgow). If you stop by, you’ll be able to pick up an Amazon gift card and a lunch tote, as well as enter for a chance to win a $250 Amazon card in the process.
It’s all in an effort to help recognize those that may not often receive their flowers, and Dr. Lawless knows it first hand.
“My mom was an elementary school teacher for many years, and so I would go with my brothers to her classroom and see all the love and the energy that was going on, not just by my mom, but my aunt was also a teacher, but all the other teachers there as well. We love to try to help people in the community that have helped us. We want to make sure that we give them something to look forward to as far as the beginning of the year, so that the students have the best opportunity to learn,” he says.
But as it turns out, teachers aren’t the only ones getting help from Lawless Orthodontics. For over 10 years now, their annual Smiles Change Lives event helps kids throughout the region receive orthodontic work that they might not be able to afford otherwise. That teacher-student connection reaches far beyond the classroom when it comes to days like these as well.
“Using the help of some of the teachers in the area to identify some of these people, we send out information to guidance counselors and teachers at all the area schools, not just in Bowling Green, but in Logan and Barren County as well. It gives kids a chance, a lot of times they won’t smile because they don’t have anything to smile about… and sometimes it is just the shape and the look of their teeth. So some of the biggest smiles we see when we finish treatment for people, there are those kids that just don’t have the means otherwise. So it’s a very rewarding thing, not only for me, but for my staff,” Dr. Lawless says.
After 10 plus years, it’s a family event now, as generations are dropping by to see Dr. Lawless and his team.
Whether it’s seeing previous patients and their families or treating new ones, however, the goal remains the same: helping the community who needs it most.
“Now we’re actually seeing some of the kids of the kids that we’ve treated… so it’s great to see that the people that we started treating because they maintain their smile. You can see that they’ve gone on to successful things after getting that smile and having that great first impression with a great smile,” Dr. Lawless says.
Smiles Change Lives takes place Friday at the Bowling Green office, and Smiles for Teachers continues Tuesday in Russellville and Wednesday in Glasgow.
