Bowling Green Municipal Utilities continues water system upgrades

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Bowling Green Municipal Utilities has been steadily replacing outdated water pipes and mains over the past several years—and it shows no signs of slowing down.

Through its Parallel Main Abandonment program, BGMU has been upgrading water lines for the past seven years. This effort involves removing old water mains and replacing them with more efficient systems.

Joe Pavoni, water systems manager, says the changes are essential as the city grows and water demands increase.

“You might have a four-inch line next to an eight-inch line, and that’s more water than needed for quality purposes,” Pavoni explained.

A planned water outage began this evening is expected to last until 9 p.m.

Similar outages are scheduled in the coming weeks as infrastructure upgrades continue. BGMU assures residents they will be kept informed both on air and online.
