Warren County Fire Department rolls out paid staff members

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Monday is the Warren County Fire Department’s first day of taking a step with paid firefighters serving under a joint fire system.

Aug. 4 is a big day for Warren County as the fiscal court has rolled out paid fire staff after decades of relying on volunteers in order to better serve the community.

Staff say this will be a big help to the firefighter scene in the county.

Right now, the county is starting with paid staff for Richardsville and Alvaton, but eventually, the whole county will be covered during the day and night.

The Warren County Fire Department system is rolling it out slowly but starting with a critical time – daytime hours. From 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., firefighters will be manning their department, ready for a call before they switch back to a volunteer based system after hours.

Warren County Judge-Executive Doug Gorman said during the day, it can be hard for volunteers, as they have their own lives.

The future is bright for the Warren County Fire Department. Eventually, every volunteer fire department will have paid employees in the county, both on day and nightside shifts, but right now, they are bolstering recruitment efforts too.
