Scottsville-Allen County Chamber receives $20,000 from We Lead CS to boost workforce development at Allen County Schools

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – Great news from the home of the Patriots as a new partnership has formed with Allen County Schools, the Scottsville Allen County Chamber of Commerce and We Lead CS to help stimulate workforce development in the schools.

We Lead CS is donating $20,000 to the Chamber to make this happen, and make sure students are prepared to head to Bowling Green, Nashville or stay at home with whatever opportunity they wish to pursue.

“Scottsville Allen County Chamber of Commerce received the Take the Lead Grant, which is going to help us develop a partnership with employers to allow students to gain more work based learning opportunities while in high school,” We Lead CS director of student services Jenna Gray says.

With all the companies located in the area, it’s a great opportunity to set students up for success in the future.

“It’s something that’s very unique and wonderful for our community because we have good industry and local business here… and not only we have places where they can come back, but we have job opportunities and things that they’re interested in that they don’t even know, so having these opportunities will help with our local industries here and businesses already, but it also will help us to attract new businesses and bringing new industry into town. It’s a way to continue to promote our community and help us grow in a positive way,” Scottsville Allen County Chamber of Commerce executive director Susan Carter says.

From the school system’s perspective, it’s about helping students find their passion.

“We are trying to make sure that our students, when they walk across the stage of Allen County Scottsville High School, that they know exactly what they want to do. There’s nothing better than when you can see a kid’s face really light up about a career that they are truly excited about… and to be able to do that in partnership with local businesses right here in our community, that’s going to be an amazing piece of the puzzle for us,” Allen County Schools superintendent Travis Hamby says.

For the chamber, it can help bring more businesses to Allen County and Scottsville.

“It’s opportunity… and that’s the main thing that we want to do is that we want to build strong students with character, great character and good job skills… and so this program is going to allow us to do that by matching what the industry needs versus what we’re doing in the schools and bring them together in the collaboration,” Carter says.
