SEEK Museum sheds light on 1908 lynchings

RUSSELLVILLE, KY.- The SEEK Museum in Russellville is screening a documentary about the 1908 lynchings that occurred in the town.

The decision was sparked by a Facebook post spreading false information about the events. Michael Morrow, Director of the SEEK Museum, said they felt the need to correct the record and share the truth.

The false claims were discovered by Morrow’s assistant, Alexander Lowe, who was motivated to speak out. Lowe emphasized the importance of accurate history, especially when public spaces like the town square are used for celebrations and worship.

The museum hopes to prevent the spread of harmful misinformation. Understanding the true history shapes both present and future perspectives.

Morrow expressed the importance of passing historical knowledge to younger generations. He and Lowe stress that while it’s good to share history, verifying facts is crucial. They believe truthful storytelling honors victims and protects community memory.

If you are interested in watching the documentary, it will be played at The Seeek Museum on August 3 at 3p.m.
