T.J. Regional Health: Buckle Up for Life team up for car seat safety

GLASGOW, Ky. – Health officials say three out of four people are using car seats wrong, but a local initiative could help change that.

T.J. Regional Health is partnering with Buckle Up for Life, a national car seat safety program from Toyota and Cincinnati Children’s, to educate south central Kentucky about child passenger safety.

Health officials say the program will feature trained specialists working closely with families and caregivers to teach them proper installation and use of car seats and booster seats.

“We know that proper use of car seats and booster seats can mean the difference between life and death in a crash,” said Gloria Del Castillo, child passenger safety expert at Cincinnati Children’s and senior specialist of community engagement for Buckle Up for Life. “That’s why Buckle Up for Life is so committed to our work with T.J. Regional Health to teach parents, caregivers and children in this area about the proper use of car seats and provide free seats to families in need.”

Families will be matched with certified child passenger safety technicians to learn how to install them, according to health officials.

Health officials say the program will also help enable the T.J. Community Mission Foundation to provide even more car seats through its T.J. Sweet Seats Car Seat Program.

T.J. Regional Health says the primary goal is to provide high-quality car seats to families in need, promoting safe transportation.
