8th of August Celebration on the way to Russellville
RUSSELLVILLE, KY.- In Logan County, the summer celebration Kentuckians have been waiting for is on the way. The annual 8th of August celebration is back in Russellville, bringing the community limitless family fun. We spoke to a prominent member of the community, and he shares why it’s not only important to celebrate the history of African Americans, but it’s also crucial that it’s shared.
Michael Morrow Director of the Seek Museum, says, “We talk about the Revolutionary War and the people who acted of their own free will. They were fighting to leave a nation, but with our people, we were enslaved. We get freedom. So it’s so important to remember that all those Juneteenth and all of those days related to that freedom.”
This celebration will be a week full of fun, and it all starts with a church service, a fashion show, and ends on the 8th of August with a large celebration.
