Morgantown resident throws first pitch at Great American Ballpark

BUTLER COUNTY, Ky. – The Cincinnati Reds defeated the Colorado Rockies 4-3 on July 12, but for one Reds fans from Morgantown, the victory wasn’t even the best part of his day at the ballpark

Butler County native Jason Mode threw out the first pitch at Great American Ballpark ahead of game two between the Reds and the Rockies

Mode, who has been working with McCormick Equipment for 14 years, felt shocked and honored when, out of 300 employees, his boss asked him to be the one to step up to the mound.

Mode believes it’s because baseball runs deep in the veins of his family, as both his son and daughter play for the Butler County Bears baseball and softball team.

But after his son recently underwent emergency surgery on his eye, being asked to throw the first pitch by his company was even more special for Mode and his family, who got to cheer him on right at the ballpark.

After the exciting experience, Mode reflected on just how surreal the moment was.

“ As far as listening and hearing people say anything, I do not remember none of that,” Mode said. “I remember standing there, waving and then I remember walking out, but it was great to be there. I know it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and that it won’t ever happen again, but I would love to be able to go back with either my son or daughter catching and actually pitch to one of them.”
