Child dies after collision, Glasgow man arrested
HORSE CAVE, Ky. – A Glasgow man is behind bars following a fatal collision.
Just before 7 p.m. on May 30, the Kentucky State Police Post says it received a call about an injury collision.
Troopers say they arrived at the scene at the 59-mile marker southbound on Interstate 65.
According to authorities, a preliminary investigation indicates that a 2014 Ford Focus, operated by 23-year-old Dru Smith of Glasgow, was parked along the side of the roadway. A 2019 Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by 31-year-old Cory Bowles, also of Glasgow, was traveling southbound when troopers say it veered off the roadway and collided with Smith’s parked vehicle.
Bowles was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, along with Mindy Bowles. Mindy Bowles was later flown to University of Louisville Hospital. In addition, a male juvenile passenger in Cory Bowles’ vehicle was also taken to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, and a female juvenile passenger was airlifted to Norton Children’s Hospital.
Dru Smith, the operator of the Ford Focus, was airlifted to the University of Louisville Hospital.
As a result of the collision, the female juvenile died due to her injuries at Norton Children’s Hospital.
Cory Bowles has been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and fourth-degree assault
The investigation is ongoing.
