Man dies after officer involved shooting

(WLEX) –  A man has died after an officer-involved shooting Kentucky State Police say the man was threatening harm to a child.

It happened early just before 1:30 Monday morning on highway 1804 in Whitley County. 

Troopers were called to the scene after a 911 call about a fight between a couple.  

Right before officers arrived 29-year old Ronald Leach of Jellico, Tennessee barricaded himself in the house with the child. 

Police say when a trooper managed to get inside the home. Leach grabbed an unidentified weapon and tried to attack the trooper who shot and killed him.~ 

Police tell us the child and trooper were not hurt.

As per protocol that trooper has been placed on administrative leave. It’s unclear if police had been called to the home for prior domestics.
